UPDATE: California Advances Bill to Mandate Speed Limit Technology
DON’T DELAY! Please contact lawmakers to request their opposition to this proposal:
Overview: California has introduced SAN-opposed legislation (SB 961) to require new vehicles to be equipped with passive intelligent speed assistance systems starting in model year 2030. The bill passed the Assembly Committees on Transportation, Privacy and Consumer Protection, and Appropriations and now awaits consideration by the full Assembly.
As initially introduced, new vehicles could not travel more than 10 miles per hour above the speed limit. The amended bill instead requires drivers to receive a notification when exceeding the speed limit by more than 10 miles per hour. Thanks to your efforts, devices that actively prevent vehicles from exceeding a certain speed are no longer required.
