Minnesota Legislature Adjourns

The Minnesota legislature failed to pass SAN-supported legislation (H.F. 1373 / H.F. 1383 / H.F. 1849 / H.F. 2530 / S.F. 1455 / S.F. 2527) to prevent the state from adopting California’s new motor vehicle emission standards. Under current law, sales of new gas- and diesel-powered vehicles may be banned starting in 2035 if the existing ties to California’s policy remain in place. Additionally, H.F. 1373, H.F. 1849, and S.F. 1455 further protect the state from restricting or mandating certain types of equipment based on the fuel used.

The SAN believes that Minnesota residents, not the government, should decide what vehicles are best for them and their families. The bills failed to advance in the House Committee on Commerce Finance and Policy, and the House Committee on Environment and Natural Resources Finance and Policy, and the Senate Environment, Climate, and Legacy Committee respectively prior to the adjournment of the session. The bills are eligible to be reconsidered during next year’s legislative session.
