Overview: New York has introduced SAN-supported legislation (A. 8866) to exempt historical and antique vehicles that are at least 50 years old from the state’s annual safety inspection requirement. The state defines these designations as any vehicle that used only as collector’s items or exhibition pieces, and not for daily transportation. Current law requires all vehicles to be inspected every year regardless of model-year. The bill currently awaits consideration in the Assembly Transportation Committee.
