Michigan Introduces Bill to Allow for Historic Military Vehicle Titling

• H.B. 4866 defines a “military surplus vehicle” as a high mobility, multipurpose wheeled vehicle or a motor vehicle manufactured for military usage that was manufactured by or under the direction of the United States Armed Forces or the armed forces of any other country and was subsequently authorized for sale to civilians.Tracked and half-tracked vehicles are not included.

Overview: SAN-supported legislation (H.B. 4866) has been introduced in Michigan to allow for the titling and registration of historic military surplus vehicles. Currently, such vehicles are not able to be titled or registered for use on highways in the state. The bill passed the House Committee on Transportation and currently awaits consideration in the House Committee on Ways and Means. A package of similar bills (S.B. 344, S.B. 345, S.B. 346) passed the Michigan Senate Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure last year and await consideration by the full Senate.
