You may use the following points in your message:

  • H.F. 2028 would save money, conserve resources and bring Iowa in line with other states that have moved to a single plate requirement.

  • H.F. 2028 would protect the aesthetic contours of vehicles and relieve the burden of having to create mounting holes on original bumpers.

  • H.F. 2028 requires the departments of transportation and public safety to conduct a study on alternate means to identity a motor vehicle from the front other than the display of a front license plate.

Overview: Legislation (H.F. 2028) has been introduced in Iowa that would allow all vehicles to display a single license plate on the rear of the vehicle. Current law only permits the display of a single plate for motor vehicles which are model year 1948 or older as well as reconstructed or specially constructed vehicles built to resemble vehicles which are model year 1948 or older. A similar bill (S.F. 193) was carried over from the 2019 legislative session in the Senate Transportation Committee. H.F. 2028 awaits consideration in the House Transportation Committee.
