Overview: Legislation (AB 210) has been introduced in California to exempt motor vehicles prior to the 1983 model year from emissions inspection requirement. The bill had been scheduled for a hearing in the Assembly Transportation Committee on March 25, 2019, but was removed from consideration by the bill’s author in order to build additional support for the measure. Current law requires the biennial testing of all 1976 and newer model-year vehicles. The bill is still pending and needs a hearing in the committee by January 17. It is critical for a hearing to be scheduled prior to the legislative deadline if the bill is to move forward.
