Hawaii Bill to Allow Military Vehicle Titling Vetoed by Governor

Legislation (H.B. 323) that would have allowed for the registration and titling of “former military vehicles” was vetoed by Governor David Ige. The bill defined former military vehicle as a vehicle 25 years or older that is a “Pinzgauer”, “Kaiser Jeep M715”, “Humvee”, or “DUKW”, and would have brought Hawaii in line with other states that are moving to allow former military vehicles similar accommodations as those available to civilian vehicles. 
 

In announcing his intent to veto the legislation, Governor Ige explained that he believed the bill would result in vehicles that didn’t conform to emissions standards or Federal Motor Safety Standards on Hawaii roadways.
