URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT (UPDATE)
Bill to Exempt Certain Historic Military Vehicles From License Plate Requirement Now to be Considered by House Committee on February 11, 2014
Legislation (S.B. 463) to exempt historic military vehicles from the requirement that they display a license plate unless the vehicle was originally manufactured with lighting and mounting provisions for a plate will be considered by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Tuesday, February 11, 2014. The hearing was originally scheduled for February 4. Under the bill, which has already been approved by the Senate, if the plate is not attached to the exterior of the historic military vehicle, it must be present in the vehicle and available upon demand by law enforcement officers.
If You Have Not Done So Already, We Urge You to Contact Members of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee (Contact Info Below) Immediately to Request Support for S.B. 463
- In Michigan, "historic military vehicle" means a vehicle, including a trailer, regardless of the vehicle's size, weight, or year of manufacture, that was manufactured for use in any country's military forces and is maintained to represent its military design and markings accurately.
- S.B. 463 would protect the aesthetic contours of historic military vehicles and relieve vehicle owners of the burden of having to create mounting holes.
DON’T DELAY! Please contact members of the Michigan House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee immediately by phone or e-mail to request their support for S.B. 463.
