URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT
Maryland Bill to Impose Registration Surcharge to be Considered on February 19, 2014
Legislation (S.B. 629) authorizing a county or municipality to impose an annual surcharge for the registration of a motor vehicle will be considered by the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee on February 19, 2014.
We Urge You to Contact Senate Budget and Taxation Committee Members (List Attached) Immediately to Request Their Opposition to S.B. 629
- S.B. 629 provides for a surcharge up to $20 per year and requires that revenue from the surcharge be used for transportation development purposes.
- S.B. 629 makes no special exception for hobby cars such as street rods and historic vehicles that constitute a small portion of the vehicle fleet, are infrequently operated and deserving of lower taxes and fees.
