Vermont Bill to Provide Titles for Exempted Vehicles Approved by Legislature; Sent to Governor
Legislation to ease the burden on hobbyists by requiring the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, upon the owner’s request, to issue titles for vehicles not currently required to be titled under Vermont law was approved by the Legislature and sent to the governor for his signature and enactment into law. Under the bill, these titles would only be available for vehicles 25-years old and older. Vehicles 15-years old and older would continue not to require titles.

- S.B. 122 would expand the out-of-state market for older Vermont motor vehicles and enhance their value to collectors.
- S.B. 122 would require the state to issue an “exempt vehicle title” if the applicant pays the applicable fee and the Commissioner is satisfied that the applicant is the owner of the vehicle, a Vermont resident and the vehicle is not subject to any liens or encumbrances.
- S.B. 122 requires assignment of a new vehicle identification number, if the vehicle does not have one
