You may use the following points in your message:

  •  H.B. 7244 acknowledges that it is senseless to test newer vehicles, the results of which demonstrate no significant improvement in safety. The idea behind exempting any class of vehicles is to reduce costs while directing finite resources to where they will be most valuable in improving safety.

  • H.B. 7244 acknowledges the relatively minimal safety risks posed by new vehicles targeted for this exemption. The vast majority of newer light-duty vehicles are equipped with modern safety technology that enables these vehicles to easily pass inspection tests.

Overview: Legislation (H.B. 7244) was introduced to extend the inspection exemption for new cars from 2 to 5 years from the date of purchase. The bill is currently in the House Committee on Finance.
