  • H.B. 1711 would bring a retro look to modern license plates by allowing consumers to choose from one of two classic designs from the 1950s (gold lettering on a blue background inside a gold outline of the Commonwealth) and 1960s (blue lettering on a gold background inside a blue outline of the Commonwealth).

  • H.B. 1711 would give consumers new options on what sort of license plates to use on their vehicles and provide classic car collectors a risk-free way to acquire plates that match the vintage of their vehicles.

Overview: Legislation (H.B. 1711) has been introduced that would allow the sale of limited edition 1950s- and 1960s-style heritage license plates. These plates would be available for all passenger cars or trucks with a gross weight less than 14,000 pounds, motorcycles, and motor homes for an additional $50 fee. If enacted into law, the bill would not impact the state’s current specialty license plate offerings. The bill has passed the House Transportation Committee and awaits consideration in the House Appropriations Committee.
