YOU MAY USE THE FOLLOWING POINTS IN YOUR MESSAGE:
- H.B. 1711 would bring a retro look to modern license plates by allowing consumers to choose from one of two classic designs from the 1950s (gold lettering on a blue background inside a gold outline of the Commonwealth) and 1960s (blue lettering on a gold background inside a blue outline of the Commonwealth).
- H.B. 1711 would give consumers new options on what sort of license plates to use on their vehicles and provide classic car collectors a risk-free way to acquire plates that match the vintage of their vehicles.
Overview: Legislation (H.B. 1711) has been introduced that would allow the sale of limited edition 1950s- and 1960s-style heritage license plates. These plates would be available for all passenger cars or trucks with a gross weight less than 14,000 pounds, motorcycles, and motor homes for an additional $50 fee. They would be available to purchase for a 5-year period. If enacted into law, the bill would not impact the state’s current specialty license plate offerings. The bill currently awaits consideration in the House Transportation Committee.
