Maryland Legislature Adjourns

SAN-supported pro-hobby bills introduced in Maryland in 2020 failed to pass both houses of the legislature prior to the adjournment of the session.
 

• Legislation (H.B. 1264) to allow the display of a single, rear-mounted registration plate for all classes of vehicles. Under current law vehicles must display two license plates. The bill would have taken effect October 1, 2020.
  
   
• A version of SEMA model legislation (H.B. 1148) to allow for the registration of military surplus vehicles. This SAN-supported bill would have created a one-time registration fee of $51 for these vehicles, which includes all wheeled, multipurpose vehicles that were manufactured for use in the U.S. or another country’s armed forces and authorized for sale to civilians. A military surplus vehicle currently registered under a different registration class prior to the bill going into effect could have continued to be registered under that class.
