  • H.B. 1264 would save money, conserve resources and bring Maryland in line with other states that have moved to a single plate requirement.

  • H.B. 1264 would protect the aesthetic contours of cars and relieve vehicle owners of the burden of having to create mounting holes on original bumpers.

  • H.B. 1264 would accommodate classic and special-interest vehicles, many of which are not originally equipped with a designated place to display a front plate.

  • H.B. 1264 would allow greater performance and styling equipment options for automotive enthusiasts in the state and the industry supporting their hobby.

Overview: SAN-supported legislation (H.B. 1264) has been introduced in Maryland to require the display of a single, rear-mounted registration plate for all classes of vehicles. Under current law vehicles must display two license plates. The bill would take effect October 1, 2020. H.B. 1264 currently awaits consideration in the House Environment and Transportation Committee.
