Single plate bills introduced in Iowa in 2016 failed to be approved by both houses of the legislature prior to the adjournment of the session.
- Legislation (H.F. 2078) to require the issuance of only a single license plate for motor vehicles was not approved prior to adjournment. The bill, favored by state hobbyists, required that the single registration plate be attached on the rear of the vehicle.
- Legislation (H.F. 2148) to require the issuance of only a single license plate for motor vehicles was amended and approved by the Iowa House. Under the amendment, sports cars and those vehicles registered as antiques would be included among those allowed to display a single plate attached to the rear of the vehicle. The bill was not considered by the Senate Transportation Committee prior to adjournment.
