You may use the following points in your message:
- S.S.B. 1156 would save money, conserve resources and bring newer antiques and special-interest vehicles in line with similar vintage offerings, including model year 1948 or older vehicles and those built to resemble such classics, which have already received an exemption from the state’s two plate requirement.
- S.S.B. 1156 would protect the aesthetic contours of vehicles and relieve the burden of having to create mounting holes on original bumpers.
- S.S.B. 1156 would accommodate additional classic and special-interest vehicles, many of which are not originally equipped with a designated place to display a front plate.
- S.S.B. 1156 would allow greater performance and styling equipment options for automotive enthusiasts in the state and the industry supporting their hobby.
Overview: SAN-supported legislation (S.S.B. 1156) has been introduced in Iowa that would allow certain vehicles to display a single license plate on the rear of the vehicle. Under the bill, eligible motor vehicles include those “registered as antiques or any vehicle that would require modifications including but not limited to adding or mounting hardware, drilling, or adding adhesives in order to secure a front registration plate.” Current law only permits the display of a single plate for motor vehicles which are model year 1948 or older as well as reconstructed or specially constructed vehicles built to resemble vehicles which are model year 1948 or older. The bill currently awaits consideration in the Senate Transportation Committee.
