Iowa Bill to Expand Single License Plate Usage Introduced
DON’T DELAY! Please contact the Iowa State Senate Committee on Transportation Immediately to request support for S.F. 2003:
- S.F. 2003 would save money, conserve resources and bring Iowa in line with other states that have moved to a single plate requirement.
- S.F. 2003 would protect the aesthetic contours of collector cars and relieve vehicle owners of the burden of having to create mounting holes on some original bumpers
- S.F. 2003 recognizes the aesthetic and classic worth of later model year vehicles
- Current law only permits motor vehicles which are model year 1948 or older, and reconstructed or specially constructed vehicles built to resemble vehicles which are model year 1948 or older to display one registration plate on the rear of the vehicle. This bill would increase this threshold to 1978 model years old or older.
Overview: Iowa has introduced legislation (S.F. 2003) that allows model 1978 or older vehicles to display a single license plate on the rear of the vehicle. Current law allows single license plates on model 1948 or older vehicles. The bill also allows reconstructed or specially constructed vehicles built to resemble motor vehicles which are 1978 model years old or older to display a single plate. The bill will be considered by a Senate Transportation Subcommittee.
