You may use the following points in your message:
-
H.B. 1417 would make illegal nearly all exhaust systems not of a type installed as standard factory equipment.
-
H.B. 1417 fails to recognize that factory replacement parts or comparables are not always readily available for all motor vehicles.
-
H.B. 1417 ignores the fact that aftermarket exhaust systems are designed to make vehicles run more efficiently without increasing emissions.
-
H.B. 1417 would make it difficult for hobbyists to replace factory exhaust systems with more durable, better performing options.
Overview: Legislation (H.B. 1417) to require all motor vehicles to be equipped with a factory installed or equivalent aftermarket muffler was introduced. Indiana already requires that exhaust systems be “in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise or smoke.”
