Illinois Bill to Provide Single Plate for Secondary Vehicles Introduced

  • S.B. 53 provides that a “secondary vehicle” is a motor vehicle weighing 8,000 pounds or less that is used less than 5,000 miles per registration year. 
     
  • S.B. 53 would help protect the aesthetic contours of rarely-used hobby cars and relieve vehicle owners of the burden and expense of having to create mounting holes on some original bumpers.  
     
  • S.B. 53 provides that the single plate requirement would take effect immediately after becoming law.    
     

Overview: Legislation (S.B 53) was introduced to provide that motor vehicles registered as “secondary vehicles” and driven less than 5,000 miles per year may display only a single plate on the rear of the vehicle.  The bill will be considered by the Senate Transportation Committee.
