Legislation was introduced in the Illinois and Mississippi Legislatures that would allow qualifying vehicles to display a blue light as part of the vehicle’s rear stop lamps. The bills recognized that blue dot taillights have no detrimental impact on safety; and simply enable enthusiasts to modify their vehicles to recall in fine detail the glory days of the hot rod era in America.
Both the Illinois and the Mississippi bills were unable to survive the legislative process in their respective states. The Mississippi was not given committee consideration before the legislature adjourned for the year while the Illinois bill was unable to pass the third reading deadline. Both bills will have to be reintroduced at the start of the next legislative session.
