Idaho Bill to Create Custom Vehicle Classification Signed into Law

Success in Idaho! SAN-supported legislation (H. 165) to add a vehicle registration classification for custom vehicles was signed into law by Governor Brad Little. The new law defines a custom vehicle as a replica vehicle that is at least 30 years old and designed and manufactured to resemble a vehicle that would qualify for classic license plates. Current law only permits specialty designations for motor vehicles registered as Classic, Old Timer or Street Rod. Similarly, a custom vehicle must be maintained for occasional transportation or exhibition in club activities, parades, tours, or other similar uses, but will not be operated for commercial or general, everyday transportation.
 

As with current specialty designations, a unique license plate will be created for custom vehicles and the display of a single rear-mounted plate will be allowed. The new law goes into effect July 1, 2021.
