Connecticut License Plate Bills Die as Legislature Adjourns

Two bills providing certain exemptions for displaying license plates failed to pass before the Connecticut legislature adjourned for 2019:

  • Legislation (H.B. 6973) exempting vehicles without a designated place and mounting hardware for a number plate from having to display a front license plate. Under current law such vehicles must display two license plates.

  • Legislation (H.B. 5666) allowing vehicles with hitches or towing equipment to be exempt from displaying an unobstructed rear license plate.

Neither bill was advanced by the Joint Committee on Transportation.

Thank you to everyone who voiced support for these bills.
