UPDATE: California Bill to Mandate Speed Limit Technology to be Heard Again Tuesday

Overview: California has introduced SAN-opposed legislation (SB 961) to require new vehicles to be equipped with intelligent speed assistance systems starting in model year 2030. The bill passed the Assembly Transportation Committee and will be heard by the Assembly Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee on Tuesday, July 2.
As initially introduced, new vehicles could not travel more than 10 miles per hour above the speed limit. The amended bill instead requires drivers to receive a notification when exceeding the speed limit by more than 10 miles per hour. Thanks to your efforts, devices that actively prevent vehicles from exceeding a certain speed are no longer required.
