You may use the following points in your message:
- California’s Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHMRV) program was established in 1971. California OHV user-taxes and fees directly fund OHV management and facility maintenance. This self-sustaining program doesn’t require general fund taxes.
- A.B. 1874 eliminates a recent requirement that $833,000 be withheld from the monthly transfer, making sure all user OHV taxes and fees go directly to the Off-Highway Vehicle Fund.
- A.B. 1874 would help protect a program that has been identified worldwide as a successful model for OHV management that supports local economies and benefits conservation and our natural resources.
Overview: Legislation (A.B. 1874) was introduced to eliminate the requirement that $833,000 from OHV taxes and fees be transferred to the General Fund and not be given to the Off-Highway Vehicle Fund. The bill is currently in the Assembly Committee on Transportation.
