Lawmakers Acknowledge Importance of Collection and Restoration of Collector Cars
Recently, the U.S. Senate passed Senate Resolution 176 (S. Res. 176) at the request of the SEMA Action Network (SAN) designating July 12, 2013 as “Collector Car Appreciation Day.” The date marks the fourth commemoration in what has become an annual event to celebrate and raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society. States, cities and Canadian provinces are joining the U.S. Senate by passing their own proclamations and resolutions. A growing list of scheduled events, like car shows, cruise-ins and parades, will be held in support of this annual celebration.

SEMA SAN Strike Force
Members of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA)/SEMA Action Network (SAN) drove their collector vehicles to the United States Capitol building in Washington, D.C., to warn Congress of risks posed by ethanol-blended gasoline to older cars and motorcycles. Their message was clear—hit the brakes on ethanol.
Joined by congressional leaders and industry experts, SEMA Action Network (SAN) members from the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) participated in the June 19, 2013, “Fuel for Thought” Rally on Capitol Hill. The event raised awareness of the corrosive effects of ethanol on automobile engines and the dangers of consumer misfueling. Hosted by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) in partnership with the SAN, the event drew car enthusiasts and motorcycle riders from across the nation. Several congressional lawmakers, AACA President Tom Cox and other ethanol opponents were among the speakers committed to supporting legislation restricting ethanol use.
With over 62,000 members representing more than 400 regions and chapters, the AACA is the oldest and largest antique car club in the nation. Founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the group is pursuing an expansion of its reach through the creation of new regions and chapters, particularly in the West and Midwest. Those interested in getting involved with the group may visit www.aaca.org or contact AACA President Tom Cox directly using this link. A special thanks is extended to those vehicle owners who made the trek to Washington to stand up for our hobby!
