U.S. Representatives John Campbell and Doug LaMalfa of California, as well as U.S. Representative Bill Posey of Florida, are a few of the State Caucus alumni who are now serving in Washington and have joined the Congressional Motorsports Caucus.

“Car Guys and Gals... Just Like You”

Did you know that some lawmakers are big fans of collector cars, vehicle exhibitions and auto racing? Many of these U.S. representatives and senators have joined the Congressional Automotive Performance and Motorsports Caucus. Likewise, state lawmakers have joined the companion State Automotive Enthusiast Leadership Caucus. These caucuses help identify lawmakers with an interest in the historical legacy of the automobile. Many of these legislators have proactively sought to protect the hobby by improving existing motor-vehicle statutes and creating new programs to safeguard and expand it.

SEMA SAN Strike Force
 

On April 5 and 6, the Association of California Car Clubs (ACCC) members gathered at the California Auto Museum in Sacramento for the group’s 27th Annual Spring Legislative Conference. Attendees learned about current legislative trends and opportunities from an array of guest speakers, including several of the state’s lawmakers and agency representatives.

While the SEMA Action Network (SAN) is pursuing greater automotive freedoms nationally in the U.S. and Canada, groups like the Association of California Car Clubs (ACCC) are complimenting these efforts at the state and local levels. For over 40 years, this volunteer organization has been comprised of regional representatives who serve the interests of its member clubs and individuals, currently numbering in the thousands statewide. Through this partnership, the SAN’s efforts have gained added horsepower on topics including vehicle emissions, legacy license plates and "specially constructed" vehicle laws. The ACCC’s continued commitment to organizing car enthusiasts in their state is greatly appreciated by us all. Thanks for fighting the good fight and here’s to another 40 years!
