Iowa Bills Fail to Pass Before Legislative Deadline

Several bills introduced in Iowa in 2018 are now dead as they failed to pass before the legislative deadline.

  • Legislation (S.F. 2037) would have allowed for Window Tinting as long as it meets the minimum standard of thirty-five percent light transmittance. SEMA supports advancement of the industry standard of not less than 35% light transmittance on all windows other than the windshield. The bill passed the Senate but did not receive a hearing in the House Transportation Committee before the legislature adjourned.

  • Legislation (S.F. 2003) would have allowed model year 1978 or older vehicles to display a single license plate on the rear of the vehicle. Current law allows single license plates on model year 1948 or older vehicles. The bill also allowed reconstructed or specially constructed vehicles built to resemble motor vehicles which are 1978 model years old or older to display a single plate. The bill did not receive a vote in the Senate Transportation Committee before the legislature adjourned.

  • Legislation (S.F. 20016) would have provided for the creation of plates for special interest vehicles in the state. Special interest vehicles are vehicles used solely for public displays, parades, related pleasure or hobby activities, or occasional transportation not related to the person's business or occupation. Currently, Iowa allows for the registration of Antique, Replica, Street Rod, and Year of Manufacturer Plates. The bill did not receive a vote in the Senate Transportation Committee before the legislature adjourned.

Thank you for voicing support for these bills.
