H.B. 7050 increase the age requirement and property taxes of antique, rare or special interest motor vehicles from 20 years old or older to 30 years old or older.
H.B. 7050 provides that a motor vehicle that was registered as an antique, rare or special interest motor vehicle prior to October 1, 2017, would be permitted to continue to be registered under that status.
H.B. 7050 provides that those vehicles no longer eligible for antique, rare or special interest motor vehicle status would be valued at the same percentage of its actual valuation, thereby increasing the property tax.
H.B. 7050 ignores the fact that existing antique, rare or special interest vehicles in Connecticut constitute a small portion of the vehicle fleet, infrequently operated and are deserving of these accommodations.
H.B. 7050 would deny vehicles 20-30 years old from existing benefits, including the lowered property taxes and special license plate accommodations.
Overview: Legislation (Governor’s H.B. 7050) to increase the age requirement of an antique, rare or special interest motor vehicles from 20 years old or older to 30 years old or older was introduced. The bill would also increase the maximum property tax assessment on any antique, rare or special interest motor vehicle from $500 to $1000.
