You may use the following points in your message:

  • H.B. 1547 makes it more difficult to register legitimate historic vehicles, which already primarily used for club activities, exhibitions, tours, parades and occasional pleasure driving.

  • H.B. 1547 would deny vehicles 25 – 45 years old from existing benefits, including the special license plate and one-time $7 registration fee.

  • H.B. 1547 ignores the fact that existing historic and special interest vehicles in Arkansas constitute a small portion of the vehicle fleet and are already well-maintained and infrequently operated.

  • H.B. 1547 represents a money grab for the state in the form of increased registration fees for vehicles that would no longer qualify for historic or special interest status.

Overview: Legislation (H.B. 1547) to substantially increase the age requirement for vehicles eligible for registration as historic or special interest vehicles has been approved by the House Public Transportation Committee.  Under the bill, the age requirement would be raised from 25 to at least 45 years old.  The bill would also require that a historic vehicle owner have registered one or more vehicles used for daily transportation.   The bill was introduced and rushed through the committee process on a single day.
