Vermont Bill to Increase Range of Fees and Taxes for Motor Vehicles Signed Into Law

Legislation (H.B. 877) to increase annual motor vehicle fees and taxes has been signed into law by Governor Peter Shumlin.  Among the fee increases are those for registration, administration, plates and titles.  Even seldom-driven exhibition vehicles would see an increase to the annual registration fee.

Fee increases include:

  • Annual registration fee for pleasure cars from $ 69.00 to $74.00.

  • Annual registration fee for exhibition vehicles, used for exhibitions, club activities, parades and not for general transportation from $15.00 to $21.00.

  • Annual registration fee for diesel-powered pleasure cars from $26.00 to $74.00.

  • Annual registration fee for light trailers (1,499 lbs. or less) from $25.00 to $27.00, and the annual registration fee for heavy trailers (1,500 lbs. or more) from $49.00 to $52.00.
