You may use the following points in your message:

  • H.B. 2149/S.B. 805 would save money, conserve resources and bring Texas in line with other states that have moved to a single plate requirement.

  • H.B. 2149/S.B. 805 would protect the aesthetic contours of cars and relieve vehicle owners of the burden of having to create mounting holes on bumpers.

Overview: Legislation (H.B. 2149) has been introduced as a companion to a Texas Senate bill (S.B. 805) to require the issuance of only a single, rear-mounted license plate for all passenger cars and light trucks. Under current law vehicles must display two license plates. This bill is different from a separate measure being considered in the Texas legislature (H.B. 673) that would only allow single plates to be issued to luxury vehicles. Both H.B. 2149 and S.B. 805 are awaiting consideration in their respective Transportation Committees.
