  • S.B. 621/H.B. 5888 would save money, conserve resources and bring Rhode Island in line with other states that have moved to a single plate requirement for historic and antique vehicles.

  • S.B. 621/H.B. 5888 would protect the aesthetic contours of cars and relieve vehicle owners of the burden of having to create mounting holes on original bumpers.

Overview: Legislation (S.B. 621/H.B. 5888) has been introduced to allow vehicles with “year of manufacture” (YOM) tags to display a single license plate on the rear of the vehicle. All motor vehicles 25 model years old and older are eligible for courtesy YOM plates in Rhode Island.  These companion bills have each passed their original chambers. H.B. 5888 will be voted on by the Senate June 27th and S.B. 621 will be voted on by the House June 28th.
