Rhode Island Bill to Extend Emissions-Inspection Waiver Dies as New Legislative Session Convenes

Legislation (H.B. 5391) to extend emissions exemptions to motor vehicles in their first five model years died as the Rhode Island Legislature convened for its 2020 session.

H.B. 5391 acknowledged the minimal environmental impact of the vehicles included in this exemption. It recognized that testing newer vehicles does not have significant air quality benefits, and thus would direct resources to where they would be most valuable in creating cleaner air.

Thank you to those who voiced support for this legislation.
