Legislation (S.B. 13) in the Maine State Senate to remove a provision in the law that requires that the overall diameter of motor vehicle tires be within 2 inches of the sizes recommended by the vehicle manufacturer will be considered by the Joint Transportation Committee on Wednesday, February 6, 2013. If you have not yet contacted committee members to voice your support, now is the time to do so.
We Urge You to Contact Joint Transportation Committee Members (List Attached) Immediately to Request Their Support for S.B. 13
The Maine Motor Vehicle Inspection Manual already requires that a vehicle will fail inspection if a tire contacts any part of the body of the vehicle.
- S.B. 13 provides that a vehicle must still comply with applicable frame height requirements which vary according to gross vehicle weight rating. Because tire size will affect frame height, frame height limits can already effectively regulate against inappropriate tire size.
DON’T DELAY! Please contact members of the Joint Transportation Committee immediately by phone or e-mail to request their support for S.B. 13.
Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at email@example.com. Also, please forward this Alert to your fellow car enthusiasts. Urge them to join the SAN and help defend the hobby! Thank you for your assistance.
